It isn't made of brass, nor does it form part of any traditional orchestra. However, you would be mistaken if you thought the Mathmos Tuba had nothing to do with music.
Mathmos Tuba in Black is a brand new horn-shaped, illuminated, blown glass, color changing, sound and motion activated lighting sculpture! Phew! The Mathmos Tuba can be set to react to music, morphing through the color spectrum, changing sequence along with the "beat" to your favorite music. We tried it with a little bit of chillout music in the form of 'Mashed Mellow Grooves' to check out out its responsiveness and were impressed with its slowed down, chilled out phasing.
Not satisfied that we had tested the product fully, we then switched to a bit of 'Ministry of Sound' and wow! the lamp changed colors more times than a chamelion in heat! (which is a lot we're told). Of course, the lamp can be set to faze through the color spectrum without the need for music, acting as a beautiful and unique mood light too.
The Tuba creates the illusion of not really knowing whether the central space has depth or not. What looks like a solid illuminated disc in the center is actually an open space, a void, that is brightly illuminated. Mathmos Tuba actually senses your hand entering this void and changes the color or the current function - cool!
