Vlieger & Vandam Guardian Angel Messenger

'Guardian Angel' is the first in a series of striking bags. It makes a strong statement about growing rates of crime and violence. The idea grew out of the increasing number of stories in the news that focused on lawlessness and antisocial behaviour. People's perceptions and the fear of violence soon grew to be greater than the number of crimes actually committed. As a response, Vlieger & Vandam wanted to give people the impression of feeling secure, arming them with a 'Guardian Angel' handbag.
In 2006, Vlieger and Vandam bags were added to the permanent collection of the MoMA.
